I am guessing what they did here is put a server in the middle that everyone connects to (8 connections) that then repeats the command out to the other 7. If just one of those is bad, everyone suffers. If I did my math right, that's 28 total up/down connections data has to flow (up/down for each link). Imagine what that web of connections can do for lag! Before, if you made a move command, it's sent to all 7 other players. If you have 8 player multiplayer, all 8 computers are running the simulation in lockstep.
